The formation of Saint John School was approved by the Diocese of Covington in 1957. A steering committee had worked to raise funds and gain support for Catholic education within the Catholic community, as well as the Scott County community at large. Construction began about 14 months later. The school began with an enrollment of 40 and was staffed by two Benedictine Sisters. The original floor plan had three classrooms with combined grades. The Benedictine Sisters left and were replaced by lay faculty in the mid-sixties. The school enrollment increased and stabilized at about 65-70 students in grades 1-8 through in the 1960's. The school's enrollment decreased to less than twenty students in the mid-1970's and the Diocese sadly closed the school in 1976. In 1985, Fr. Lee Trimbur, pastor of St. John & St Francis, worked with parish committees to again establish support for the school. In the summer of 1985, Fr. Trimbur gained Diocesan support to reopen the school with a summer program. In August 1986, the school opened with Kindergarten & pre-school classes. During the late 1980's and 1990's the school expanded and had grades pre-K through 5. During this time, a portable unit and two houses were purchased to allow more space. In the late 1990's, Fr. John List and Principal Mary Anne Enoch gained parish, community and Diocesan support to expand St. John School to include a middle school. In the fall of 2002 the 8th grade was added and the middle school expansion was complete.
St. John School currently has over 150 students and plans are being made to build a new facility.
